The 13-inch tablet: a drawing board you can hold

A page-shaped 3:2 screen, 6.8 mm of metal and no fan. The pen and the keyboard cost extra.

The 13-inch tablet: a drawing board you can hold

This tablet is a 13-inch drawing board that can be held in the hands. With a stylus it is a notebook and a sketchbook to carry about; with a keyboard cover it deals with email, documents and a video meeting called at short notice. The graphite-grey metal body is only 6.8 mm thick and takes up almost no room in a briefcase.

The screen is a fully laminated 13-inch LCD of 2880×1920. Held upright, its 3:2 shape is close to a sheet of manuscript paper; turned on its side and split in two, neither pane feels cramped. The refresh rate adjusts itself between 30Hz and 120Hz, so the line keeps up with the tip of the pen and writing leaves no trail. Brightness peaks at 600 nits and the surface has an anti-reflective coating, so it stays legible beside a window.

An eight-core processor and 8GB of memory let papers, notes and a browser be switched between without reloading, and there is 128GB of storage. The 10,000 mAh battery plays video for about 12 hours, and the 45 W charger in the box fills it in an hour and a half. There is no fan, so it is silent throughout.

  • Four speakers on the two short edges, for stereo whichever way it is held.
  • A 12-megapixel ultra-wide front camera that keeps the speaker in the middle of the picture on a video call.
  • A single 13-megapixel rear camera, clear enough for scanning documents and whiteboards.
  • Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth, and a USB-C port for an external display or storage.

It is for students and researchers who annotate a great many papers, for designers who often sketch, and for households that want a large screen for drama series and sheet music. At about 640 g it sits better on a desk or a lap than held up in one hand for long.

In the box are the tablet, a USB-C charging cable, the 45 W charger and a quick-start guide. The stylus and the keyboard cover are sold separately.
