The plant we visited draws fibre from preforms the size of a rolling pin, coats it, colours it and bundles it into ribbon cable. Output has doubled in two years, and the order book stretches into next year.
The constraint is no longer demand but skilled labour. Splicing and testing are precise, repetitive jobs, and the company has started its own training school to fill the gap. A sample market briefing is attached to this story.
